OUTSIDE
The beautiful gardens were originally landscaped in 1816 and integrate into the 200 acres of parkland that make up the estate, and remain largely unchanged to this day. The unique walled garden was constructed with flues installed so that it could be heated to protect the precious fruit trees during the colder Scottish months.
With well-established woodlands, beautifully manicured lawns, an avenue of 18th century lime trees, a flower garden and many other magnificent vistas, you will find beauty and tranquillity abound in the Lachlan Estate.
THE COTTAGES
Within the estate are eight self-catering cottages, all within easy walking distance of the main Castle. The cottages vary in style from modern to traditional, and come complete with bed linen, towels, and all the equipment you might need to self-cater. Guests are of course welcome to join the castle guests for any dining.
Gardens Cottage
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, sleeps 4
A recently renovated contemporary cottage, Gardens Cottage is a former staff house, detached bungalow, situated near the walled garden. The cottage has a living room, kitchen, bathroom, twin bedroom and double bedroom.
Cunninghame Cottage
3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, sleeps 6
A recently renovated contemporary cottage situated on the garden wall of Lachlan Gardens. Downstairs there is a living room with comfortable soft seating, a digital TV and DVD and adjoining open plan fully fitted kitchen which includes a washing/dryer, under the counter fridge and freezer, cooker and microwave oven. One twin bedroom, one double bedroom and a bathroom. Upstairs there is a twin bedroom and a large playroom.
McDowall Cottage
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, sleeps 4
A recently renovated contemporary cottage converted from a former Garden Bothy built about 1800. It is romantically situated on the garden wall of Lachlan Gardens just 5 minutes’ walk from Lachlan Castle.
Downstairs McDowall Cottage has a dining room/living room with comfortable soft seating, a digital TV and DVD, a fully equipped kitchen with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and washer/dryer. A bathroom and bedroom with double bed. Upstairs there is a bedroom with two single beds.
Kennedy Cottage
3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, sleeps 6-7
A traditional style cottage adjacent to the main castle, with 1 twin bedroom, 1 double bedroom and a bedroom with a double and a single bed, and one shower room. There is a large living room with comfortable soft seating and digital TV, along with a fully equipped kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and washer/dryer.
Mackenzie Cottage
4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, sleeps 8
A recently renovated contemporary cottage located in the old stable block, a 1 minute walk from the main castle. Downstairs is a there is a large living room, kitchen, twin bedroom and shower-room with toilet, upstairs there are a further 3 twin/double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower over the bath.
Farrer Cottage
3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, sleeps 6
A traditional style cottage located in the old stable block. Downstairs is a there is a large living room with comfortable soft seating, digital TV, a fully equipped kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Upstairs there is a bathroom and a separate shower cubicle and three bedrooms (one with a double bed and two twin bedrooms).
Wauchope Cottage
4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, sleeps 8-9
A traditional style cottage located in the old stable block. The cottage has a large living room with comfortable soft seating, a LED TV and adjoining open plan dining room. The fully equipped kitchen has an integral hob and oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a bathroom (with shower over the bath) downstairs. Upstairs there are three bedrooms with twin beds, one family bedroom with a double and single bed and a second bathroom with bath and separate shower.
McIntyre Cottage
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, sleeps 4
A traditional style cottage located in the old stable block. Mclntyre Cottage has a large fully equipped kitchen/dining/living room upstairs with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer dryer, digital TV and a spectacular view over the valley of the River Girvan. There is 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and a bathroom all on the ground floor.
