The Elegance and Luxury of the Goring Hotel

Since its inception, the Goring Hotel has been at the forefront of providing a luxury hotel service far superior to its competitors.  When the Goring was established in 1910 by Otto Richard Goring, it was the first hotel in the world to provide private bathrooms and central heating for every room.  Since then, the Goring Hotel has remained the flag bearer for luxury accommodation in London.

One of the reasons that the Goring has maintained its status as the most luxurious hotel in London is that it is a family owned business.  Four generations of the Goring family have prided themselves in offering a rich and unique experience for guests staying at the hotel.  In fact, the Goring is the only luxury hotel in London owned by a single family since it was established.  The staff are highly-trained and provide a world-class guest experience.

Luxury properties to hire in London

If one word was used to describe the hotel, it would be “elegant”.  All rooms feature beautiful furniture, fine Italian linen, large comfortable beds, elegant armchairs, flowing curtains and beautiful silk wallpapers.  The hotel features 69 luxurious suites and rooms, all of which have undergone a recent refurbishment.  A wide range of rooms and suites are available including:

  • Deluxe rooms, with large comfortable beds and seating areas
  • King Rooms, with king sized beds and bespoke furniture
  • Queen Rooms, with queen-sized beds and a more delicate design sensibility
  • Family Rooms, designed so the children have rooms attached to their parents’ room
  • The Belgravia Suite, opulent one-bedroom suite designed by Russell Sage.
  • The Royal Suite, the ultimate in prestige and luxury unveiled in 2011. The choice of royalty.

The beauty of the hotel is not restricted to its interior, with the Goring Gardens just a few steps away.  One of the largest private gardens in London, the Goring Gardens are a magnificent sight and a lovely place to spend an afternoon.  The lounge bar attached to the gardens offer an award-winning cup of tea which you can enjoy in the beautiful surroundings.

The Goring has a long and interesting history.  It was one of the last luxury hotels to be built in the Edwardian style of architecture.  It is quintessentially British, which is one of the reasons it is so commonly frequented by royalty.  During World War I it was used as the command centre for the Chief of Allied Forces.  In 1919, Lady Randolph Churchill, mother of Winston Churchill made the hotel her home.  It has been a favourite hotel of the rich and famous for many decades.

The hotel is nestled close to the centre of London and within walking distance of famous locations including Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park and Apollo Victoria Theatre.  The proximity to the central business district of the city is also useful for visitors to London who are on a business trip.  The Goring is the finest traditional hotel in London with a beautiful atmosphere and perfect location, in the heart of the city.

A Favourite for Royalty

Royalty have enjoyed staying at the Goring Hotel for many years.   The most recent royal visitors were Prince William and Princess Kate, who stayed in the hotel after their wedding.  Catherine Middleton and some members of her family also chose to stay at the Goring in the days leading up to Kate’s wedding.

The Queen Mother was a frequent visitor to the Goring Hotel and it was her preferred location for afternoon tea parties with friends.  The Goring Hotel was also the location of her last public appearance before passing away.  The Queen Mother enjoyed eating the “Eggs Drumkilbo” at The Goring — a lobster and egg-based dish that remains on the menu in the dining room.

George Goring received an O.B.E from Her Majesty The Queen in 1990 for ‘services to the hotel industry’ — a reward for a life spent devoted to the comfort of his guests.  Her Majesty The Queen has also granted a Royal Warrant to the Goring Hotel for hospitality services in 2013.  The Goring is the only luxury hotel in London to have been granted a Royal Warrant for hospitality services.   A Royal Warrant is a mark of recognition for people who provide goods or services to the Royal Family.  A truly magnificent achievement which no other luxury hotel in London can match.

Thankfully, even if you aren’t a member of the Royal family, you can still enjoy the luxury of the Goring hotel.  The Goring Hotel is an exquisite experience that must be seen to be believed!
