Ellenborough Park is stunning historic country residence set in a private 90 acre estate on the outskirts of Cheltenham, overlooking the famous Cheltenham Racecourse. The main house dates back to 1500, when it was constructed as a private house, and was eventually sold to the 1st Earl of Ellenborough who completed the house as it is seen today. The Estate was purchased in 2007 by the current owners, who began an extensive restoration project to return the house and grounds to their former glory, with no expense spared in ensuring this stunning estate offers a truly indulgent experience.
Approached through a Cotswold stone pillars and a sweeping driveway through the estate, Ellenborough Park offers privacy, seclusion and luxury from the moment you arrive. The setting is enchanting, the exterior of the main house is truly stunning, and with beautiful views and grounds this property definitely has the “wow factor”. From the original 16th century fireplaces to the magnificent crystal chandeliers, Ellenborough Park offers elegance, luxury and a wealth of original features. The interiors are the brain child of world renowned interior designer Nina Campbell, who lovingly designed each individual room to the highest of standards, carefully preserving the heritage of the property whilst injecting a touch of modern luxury to ensure guests’ utmost comfort.
The only property in Gloucestershire to be awarded 5 stars by the AA, Ellenborough Park also offers extensive leisure facilities, including its own luxury spa with a variety of specialist spa treatments available, along with a hydro-pool, sauna, steam room and 6 treatment rooms. In addition there is an outdoor heated pool which is open year round for residents, along with a fitness suite and a plethora of outdoor activities available both within the estate and nearby.
The main house entrance opens onto a beautiful glass ceiling courtyard, with a small sitting area and the bar and the “Horse Box” brasserie entrance. A vast stone corridor leads towards the magnificent Great Hall with its double height ceiling, exposed Cotswold stone and grand fireplace, making a spectacular setting for cocktail parties, presentations and weddings alike.
Dining can take place in the elegant wood panelled restaurant with its beautiful 16th century fireplace, or a number of private dining suites, with the cuisine here awarded 3 AA Rosettes under head chef David Kelman you can be such of exquisite cuisine and superb service wherever you choose to dine. The head Sommelier can recommend the perfect wines to accompany your meal, with an extensive wine cellar and a fully stocked bar at your disposal. For more relaxed dining, guests are welcome to dine in the Brasserie, with comfortable seating and a delightful menu.
For larger events, the lovely De La Bere Court offers a private function suite with stunning exposed Cotswold stone, a glass atrium ceiling and its own private bar, this is the perfect choice for dining for up to 140 guests or cocktail parties for up to 160. There are doors out onto a private terrace and manicured lawn, and with its own entrance even when the hotel is not taken exclusively you could be forgiven for thinking this is your own private section.
De La Bere Court is also wonderful for weddings, with the Ellenborough Gallery located just across the lawn which has an almost church like feel (although is strictly licensed for civil ceremonies only) with a high ceiling, galleried landing and quaint windows. You can choose to hold your ceremony in the Ellenborough Gallery, drinks reception on the lawn and with your wedding breakfast in the Court, which has a wonderful flow and makes a perfect choice for stylish private country house weddings. Up to 140 guests can be accommodated within the Court or larger weddings can utilise a marquee on the lawn.
Ellenborough Park is also perfect for presentations, seminars, product launches, recitals or cocktail parties, and the estate is a fabulous setting for photo shoots and filming. There is Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel and an excellent sound system with large screen and television capacity, and the renowned Centaur Conference Centre with 2,250 capacity is on the doorstep.
The 61 bedrooms at Ellenborough Park have been individually designed and furnished to the highest of standards, with large Hypnos beds specifically made for Ellenborough Park, feather duvets and pillows, the finest Egyptian cotton bed linen and spacious luxury bathrooms with soft fluffy robes and premium toiletries. There are four suites at Ellenborough Park, each offering particularly spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, and unique original features; along with several family rooms and suites around the pool courtyard.
The grounds at Ellenborough Park extend over 90 acres, with manicured lawns and parkland. The hotel has its own private track access to Cheltenham Racecourse, making it the perfect choice for the attending the world famous Gold Cup Festival, or any of the other races held here. The setting is idyllic, surrounded by Cotswold countryside with wonderful walks from the doorstep.
There are a plethora of activities that can be arranged either within the grounds or nearby, from the usual country pursuits such as shooting and archery to husky dog sledding, segways, and even a Bear Grylls Survival Academy.
