Court House Manor – Information

Court House Manor is a stunning Grade I listed country residence located in the beautiful village of Painswick in Gloucestershire, in the heart of the Cotswolds. Set in four acres of private landscaped grounds the house is steeped in history, and has previously hosted many eminent figures including King Charles I who stayed at the property during the Siege of Gloucester in 1643. Court House Manor as it stands today dates back to the 16th century, however it has a long and illustrious history dating back as early as 1050 when the first lord was registered here. The property’s fascinating history as Painswick’s Court House meant that not only did the lord of the manor live here, but also justice was served and prisoners held, with the old court room still evident with its grand fireplace and imposing wood panelled walls. The house has been extensively and lovingly restored by the current owners to the luxurious home it is today, with beautiful original features combined with opulent interiors to create one of the most chic and stylish properties in this most beautiful of regions.

Approached through large iron gates and a sweeping driveway, Court House Manor offers an oasis of tranquillity just moments from Painswick’s idyllic high street, with fine dining restaurants, quaint shops and traditional country inns all within walking distance. Painswick’s reputation as “Queen of the Cotswolds” is well deserved, with mellow honey coloured stone buildings (unusually large for the Cotswolds due to the town’s affluent resident wool merchants in years gone by) and pretty cobbled streets, with beautiful walks through open countryside right from your doorstep. The pretty St Mary’s Church is located next to the Manor (with private gated access), with ninety-nine beautiful manicured yew trees it is a stunning sight, and it is said the ghost of King Charles I and his men in suits of armour still haunt the grounds to this day.

As one of the UK’s most exclusive private residences, you can expect only the highest standards of accommodation and service at Court House Manor, with housekeeping and breakfast included as standard, and the option to rent on a fully catered and staffed basis with a private chef at your disposal. The beautiful interiors offer elegance and opulence in abundance, with an enviable collection of fine art, antique furniture and exquisite ornaments.
